Career Resources

Looking for great free career resources?  Quizzes?  Listings?  How-to guides?

What Is NextCareer.me?

Maremel has been testing programs for four years that can help different ages of career explorers reframe and restart career journeys.  The programs have been used by corporate leaders, engineering students, creative industries undergraduates, and entrepreneurs trying to change how they look at career change and how to find good tools to support their career transition journey.   It is a program run by the Maremel Institute, a think tank and learning network run by Dr. Gigi Johnson in Southern California.  Many of the resources are US-based, but can apply to career questions and directions in your own country and environment.

How does this help me?

There are lots of online career guides, skill quizzes, and heavily-marketed job sites out there.  NextCareer.me is a program to help you (a) rethink your own storyline and frameworks on jobs, (b) find the right tools and networks for you, and (c) set up a personalized and supported follow up systems to keep the journey and explorations going.

We all change jobs.  In fact, the average person under 30 changes them more than once every 3 years.  How can you find the right support under these transitions? How do you get started with a solid framework and untangled from the heavy resume-system, un-personalized networks? How can you really learn where the gaps are that might be unique to your own skills or your own areas of passion/exploration/change?

For users who are in their teens through 60’s, there are career pivots and re-launchings that happen at all stages.  NextCareer.me is launching programs for different stages of life, to build the structures and awareness to help you break out of your own boxes, build skills and relationships, and build systems to provide the social, knowledge, and emotional support you need to develop and expand (and pivot) in changing work and tech worlds.

What is The Process Like?

We have built 5 support steps along this journey.  Each person needs something different and a different combination, so please enjoy them as you need the tools and support.

1. Map Where You Have Been
How have you made job decisions and set your path to date?  We’ll work with tools to help you think afresh about your journey and tactics.
2. Research Resources in the Wild
Google is your friend and your worst enemy.  We’ll work with you on skills to explore possible jobs and careers while avoiding the traps along the way from poor information and bends in the digital road.
3. Build Goals to Bridge Your Skill Gaps
We’ll explore the jobs you might want in the future, and how your soft and hard skills relate –and can expand through classes and experiences.  We’ll be plotting a longer-term journey than just your next job.
4. Reach Out Proactively vs. Reacting to Job Posts
You will have access to tracking tools to see where you are, set reminders for follow up, and new information about prospective companies.
5. Adjust, Expand, or Refocus
You are driving your own journey, and will be adjusting as we move forward.
